Y'all oughta move to Alaska...we are having a heat wave here! LOL! It's supposed to be in the 20's above zero for the next week...and we only have about a foot of snow on the ground - so far this winter! We are about 40 degrees above normal temperatures and at around 50% of our usual snowfall! Looks like you guys are getting our weather this year!

I wish you hadn't said that.

Underneath all that cold wet snow is a potential of a thick layer of ice along the length of the rig...and if you are heating the inside of the rig, all the more potential for there to be a thick layer of ice on the roof as the snow will insulate cold as well as warm.
Good points, Kathy. There was a layer of ice under all of the snow. I am gonna have to wait for the sun to take care of that.......don't want to tear the rubber roof.

I don't know the best way to deal with that layer of ice but I suspected that it would be there. If you have removed all the snow you can safely remove (I stress the safely part) it will help to reduce the weight as the snow continues to melt and freeze. Otherwise, as the snow melts the ice will thicken. Icycles are another pain to deal with. They can take house rain gutters down with a crash. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. And by "you" I mean ALL of you that are getting this bad weather.

AK, you're the most experienced at this. You probably anticipated for it and prepared for it. Heck, you're the one trained to go out and help the ones that didn't know any better get safe. Got any good ideas on what to do with that ice under the snow or anyting else?

Well as far as the ice under the snow comment, I doubt there is anything that can be done at this point except to let Ol Sol take care of it in his time. Just let the sun warm things up and melt the snow off...ice usually doesn't create near as many holes in a rubber roof as you would trying to speed up the process! Now next time, you can do a few things to prevent this. Put a couple sawhorses on the roof (with folded up towels under the feet to pad things, and a tarp over the sawhorses to form a pitched roof. Or park your rig in a covered shelter. Whatever you do, if you do get snow on the roof, don't sweep or scrape if off (unless you get a LOT of it). You'll do far worse to your roof than the snow will.

As for the snowman hanging....anyone who has wintered in Alaska can sympathize with him!
